Oh hi and welcome to Hidden Glasgow. An introduction would be nice and an indication as to which Burns Howff you're referring to would be welcome.

I'm presume because you're new and where you're from you haven't used our fabulous search feature. Try it and you're question might be answered.

I was a semi regular in the 70's, can't remember much more than that I'm afraid, guess I had a good time then. ::):

I was fully regular in the 70's and I also visited the Howff on a few occasions as well :D

I knew Paul Waterston and was a part of a group calling themselves The Family ::): saw a few bands saw a few weirdos especially the one who followed me around the tables and thought I was a witch due to my black kohl eyes and shawl that I was wearing! but we got him banned..... ah the 70's

I drank in the Howff in it's last 3 or 4 years.
Mainly drank 'downstairs' but went upstairs to see bands such as Chasar, Non-Compos Mentos, Anaconda and one or two others.

I was a regular upstairs from '71 'til I moved to Ayrshire in '78. I have fond memories of a lot of the bands, names which I remember - Gasoline Alley, Foxy, Creed, Anthem, Dinah Moe Hum, Stiltz, Cava, and Joe Cool.
Jerry Eadie from Gasoline Alley is still earning his crust as a muso, doing solo stuff in Chicago and Eddie Houston from Creed is still playing. He was on at the retro festival at Strathclyde Park a while back and can be contacted on Facebook.
Sadly, Alec Bates, the old (he was 33 when I was 18) train driver, died a wee while back.
I worked behind the bar there for 1 week and saw, with total disgust, beer lifted from tables at afternoon closing time put behind the bar and resold in the evening. I only ever drank bottled Guinness anyway so it didn't affect me, but it was pretty gross. Doubtless The Waterstons never knew

I would suggest that the Waterston's knew only too well about the re-used beer. In fact knowing them it was probably their idea.
Can't say I've heard of any of the bands you mention. I was 11 in 1971. At 18 I think I was drinking in the Pot Black or the Burnside Hotel (Rutherglen).
