Well I was in Tust last night and was very impressed by how beautiful it has been done. I was particularly impressed by the dry ice getting pumped out behind the gigantic budda...very atmospheric. And it got more so after each cocktail had bee supped.

But what was the building before?

Sharon, I know you have had a bit of a rough weekend. Was it TUSK you were in?
Que Gordon,I think it was the old Waverly cinima, latterly a snooker hall.

The pub at my number one spot and has been for over a year now has to be the Ben Nevis on Argyle st in Finnieston. A wall of whisky, contemporary design with traditional materials, great music, friendly bar staff. It's all part of my slow transformation into an old man with a pipe and pint at the bar.

Now this sounds like my ideal pub... yet I've never been in...

"Its an old mans pub, we are NOT going there"

Still given my weakness for whisky, its maybe just as well, I fear it could get messy ...easily...

Oh I've been in there, nice pub.

Bit wierd tho, there was an old man syringing guiness into his stomach when I was there!!!!

really? THE man with the syringe... I was starting to think he was an urban myth to be honest. I had heard of him being spotted in the Islay Inn before.. I figured he wouldn't stray from the teuchter triangle, but there you go.

Re the wee debate on pubs and deafening musak on the 'Drinks Night' thread. I wonder if there are many decent pubs in central Glasgow that don't do the loud music bit and where you can have a conversation but are not deathly depressing places to be in. Anyone have any suggestions?

Ok... here's a few suggestions:

Babbities
Mono
Pot Still
The Stae Bar
The Griffin
Waxy's
College Bar
Rab Ha's - prolly too busy
Blackfiars - prolly too busy
Gandolfi
The Rogano for cocktails - an outfit would be required ;)

Please continue this valuable research!!!

Thank you folks this is an excellent start... Fossil I know what you mean about the steps I only once drank in it - was taken there by a then-young guy Jim Elder who said his mother'parents owned it?
Any other suggestions and recommendations most welcome.
