Silly Big Post, tidy-ing up some West-ish stuff.

Postby MungoDundas » Mon May 03, 2010 10:12 pm

Grtz,

Not wishing to get too fixated, but with three under 10yrs - parks are important.

Despite the changeable weather, we cycled out to the West visiting some parks in those very neighbourhoods.
Strangely they still don’t quite join up bicycle-wise which is a little sad.
On the other hand, generally reminds me what a brilliant town we’re lucky enough to stay in.
Later we passed some other Parks on the Southside from the hydro-pneumatic comfort of the Citroen.

Please consider these just as holding thumbnail sketches by e-snap for the sake of completeness
meantime, pending others getting their proper Nikon-style photographs in place.

Possibly seen over £250,000 + worth of Playaria equipment this afto.

Shouldn't say this but whilst some seem stuff is remarkably safe & advanced, still nowhere near as
good as - over the too high wall, down the slope then up through the bushes to an old tarry hut
beside the railway.

Paterson Park (no kosher signage, save the adjacent Youth Centre) just a grass field really - but if you’ve not got a key, you’re not in there?)

Did you know there’s now a Canalside Bistro in Knightswood?

Friendly staff & the Potato & Onion Soup gets A + from this crowd.

The unfortunately named Cappa Café on Rotherwood Ave is adjacent to a Chip Chik Inn branch and a mere canalbridge away from the Kebab Shop that was raided for their takings at gun-point some little while back.

mungo dundas, its peterson park not paterson, also that is not it.your pic shows what once was the university playing fields, hockey, rugby.now council ran and mainly football.peterson park was on the other side of duntreath ave and was red gravel football pitches with old pullman railway carriages as changing rooms and also owned by the university, its a new housing estate now having been sold off years ago, sorry if i was being a bit of a pedant there.

The one in Hayburn Crescent is referred to as Dyce Park (I think by GCC) - it's maintained by GCC but has no signage and has been known locally as the YM and the Doggy Park since I've lived here. There's a new organisation called Friends of Dyce Park looking to develop it. It's at the other end of Hayburn Crescent from the Hayburn Playpark.

Anyone see the piece in the Weekend Evening Times this week about Molendinar Park? Apparently the city's newest public park?

There's a couple of pics on http://www.locidesign.info/images.htm

I wonder how long Molendinar will keep the 'newest' title. There's yet another being built on the Kent Road side of the Glasgow Gaelic School.
I hear the people sing.

Better than that : Glesga Steve posted a map.

Glesga_Steve wrote:I've indicated the 74 designated 'local' parks on a Google Map.

I've had to hazard a guess at the location of a handful of them so feel free to correct me if you think I've made any mistakes.

As for the 17 'city'/'district' parks, I'll have guesses at 15 of them (not sure what the other 2 might be)...

Alexandra Park
Auchinlea Park
Bellahouston Park
Botanic Gardens
Cathkin Braes Country Park
Dawholm Park
Glasgow Green
Hogganfield Park
Kelvingrove Park
Linn Park
Pollok Country Park
Queens Park
Springburn Park
Tollcross Park
Victoria Park

It looks as though the following should be dropped from our list...

Albert Park; Bennan Square; Essenside; Garscadden Burn Park; Garscadden Wood; George Square; Gorget Park; Greenbank Park; Huntingtower Park; Old Station Park; Peterson Park; Pirie Park; Shawhill Park; Trinley Brae; Yorkhill Park

I'm surprised that Albert Park isn't a designated local park and I strongly doubt it is one of the 17 city/district parks. Also slightly confused by the omissions of Bennan Square and Greenbank Park considering both have GCC park signs at them. The Bennan Square sign doesn't actually contain the work 'park' though I suppose. I suspect that GCC might view Greenbank Park as being a part of Auldhouse Park.

Do we think that George Square is one of the 'city' parks? Does Blythswood Square fall into the same category?

I've seen a new park called 'Dams to Darnley Mill Country Park' (shared responsibility between GCC and ERC) mentioned online - is that a designated 'district' park?

Hey guys. Managed to get some pics of Carmunnock Coppice Woodland today:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/sega_gary/ ... 442460961/

Not a lot going on right now but still very cool and eerie. It's near me in Cathkin (just over the Glasgow boundary - damn 1996 boundary changes!!!!).

Also here are some others from this weekend. Elder Park needs added to the main list - it's there but not numbered. Moledinar Park needs added since it opened officially now. Darnley Mills needs numbered on main list. Dams to Darnley needs added although it's virtually the same as Darnley Mills just larger and includes parts of East Renfrewshire.

Would you count the Riverside Walk Govan? Carmunnock Coppice Woodland needs added.
