Old Maps

Postby Monument » Mon May 18, 2009 11:00 am

Thought this link http://www.mynewsletterbuilder.com/tools/view_newsletter.php?newsletter_id=1409925123 might be of interest to some. I use their modern maps, and like the software. Am very excited about the old ones.

Humble apologies if there is already an old map thread somewhere. I couldn't find it.

Looks like they missed out Scotland, typical!

Dissapointing development. This lot are charging £20 per module when perviously you could access the whole lot free, (including Scotland) on the http://www.visionofbritain.org.uk/ site, but when I tried this link today the "500 Internal Server Error" notice is displayed, suggesting that the site has closed down. Could be another cheap reference source has gone commercial.

For once my cynical side has been proved wrong, must have been a temporary outage - see the old OS maps at http://www.visionofbritain.org.uk/maps/index.jsp, save yourself a few quid!!

Cheers for all the negative responses. I find their software extremely functional if you want to more than just look at a map online.

Apologies for sounding negative, but if the software doesn't cover where you are interested in, its not much good! Too often Scotland is missed out, I bought the full memory map package some time ago only to be disappointed that there was no satellite photos even though I'd paid for it. When I did get them, they were poor low res compared to microsoft/google. I will be asking them when they will be bringing out the old maps to cover Scotland, if they are promoting it as a feature it should be available to all. I bet OS have a hand in this, they seem to have a very tight control on their data and licence it strictly to different platforms and prevent cross usage. Having said that, personally I think that old overlays on new maps are fascinating and will be willing to pay for this function. Now can I get them on my Satmap, that what I really want!
