High Road = Bonfire. Don't let them waste precious hours on that shite. ::):

There must be more worthy stuff from news footage, documentaries etc. worth archiving.
This prompted me to have a look at some of STV's productions over the years that might be worth slavaging. Not a lot it would seem.

Here's a sample of STV productions over the years.

Image

Light Entertainment

The One O'Clock Gang
Studio Downbeat
The Andy Stewart Show
At home with Doctor Evadne Hinge and Dame Hilda Bracket
Hello, Good Afternoon, Welcome
Sounds Gaelic
Wheel of Fortune
Drama
Doctor Findlay
The Pride of Miss Jean Brodie
Taggart
(Take the) High Road

Children's Progs

Roundup
How 2
Funhouse

News / Documentary

Here and Now
Oil
Scotland Today
Scottish Reports
Ways and Means

Religion

Seek the Truth

PS: Which Channel produced Scotland's Rock'n Roll Years back in the mid 1980's? I always thought it was an STV production as opposed to BBC Scotland.

Tons of stuff is kept in the archive, but bearing in mind the station's been going the best part of 50 years, there's a huge amount that was never recorded as it would have just gone out live. The archvie, AFAIK mostly goes back to the mid 80s.

There were quite a few other productions that have interesting footage, such as arts shows NB which ran for a good long time from mid 80s to early 90s and has footage of theatre productions, interviews, exhibitions, bands etc. Chartbite had quite a few local bands making their once-only TV appearance.

Worth pointing out that there is very very little pre mid 1980s, even stuff like Scotland Today as the shows would have gone out live and there was no requirement to record and keep the recording. Video tape was very expensive and used sparingly in the early days, and tapes would be re-used and their contents wiped.

It was The time of our lives and it was an STV show.

about the crimewave of road compressor theft in the city ::):

Yip Ken. I always thought at the back of my mind
that Weir's Way was a Grampian production. Think it
was too much of the Beechgrove before Starsky & Hutch
when I was a kid ::):

Glen Michaels Cavalcade was a brilliant wee program when I was young.

Although.......

STV are reponsible for producing the biggest pile of "TURD" over the years

BAD STUFF

1.Thingymajig (although this might have been Grampian TV)
2. Anything made in Gaelic (how do such a low percentage of the population get so much TV made for them, never understood that)
3. Fun House
4. Taggart (anything after Mark Mcmanus died)
5. Scotsport Extra Time (anything brodcast after 2000)
6. Football First (We'll put it on early on a Sunday....that's the reason no one watches it..... aye right...... theres only three things more sh*t* than the SPL...Divisions 1,2 and 3)
7. Wheel Of Fortune (the Bradly Walsh years)
8. Take the High Road

GOOD STUFF

1. STOOKIE
2. Glen Michaels Cavalcade
3. Wheel of Fortune (Carol Smillie era)
4. Taggart (with Mark Mcmanus)
5. Scotsport (with Jim White and Gerry Mcnee and his "breaking news" and was always shown on Sunday)
6. A game of 2 halves
7. Now you see it
8. Weirs Way

:D Yes. "A gang of 'neds' were seen hanging around Pertick Cross" or wherever.
Bill Knox was a prolific writer y'know - 24 books. He died in 1999.

Flash_Andy, the rest of your comments I share the very same opinion, but comments on 2, I find offensive.

Yet we cannot forget Carol Smilie ;)

The Scottish Exec have thrown money at Gaelic broadcasting and insisted the BBC do likewise. STV/ Grampian have been allowed to cut back their promised 26 hours of Gaelic to just 6 hours in return for c £2M into the kitty.

I think the feeling is that it should have its own special place in broadcasting. That probably means some kind of digital channel, thus freeing up the schedules of STV/Grampian for more profitable stuff.

Thingummyjig was STV, hence the Laird o'Coocaddens.

Bill Knox- "Three neds, one hood and a number of ne'erdowells were seen in the vicinity at the time..."

Classic.

Not meant to be offensive, just stating the obvious, take tonight on BBC2, 4 Gaelic programs fom 6pm to 8pm, there was another one STV last night, and theres a Gaelic chanel on Freeview.

How aboot sum mare TV programs for us wi a Glesga accent/slang? (also a dieing scots tounge! Apparently us weegies are sounding more "cockney" these days!

Anyhow I have bone to pick with another Scottish minority who hog the TV shedules....Gardeners. Why do they get so many programs made for them? Bloody Beechgrove garden! :x
