A very small example of my music collection. About 10% I think. It's all I can fit on my computer. The remaining 40,000 are on CDs

I used to have a lot more, but they're mostly on CDs now.

Most of this is the evidence of my inability to walk past Fopp without going in and buying something. There's more that's not ripped yet, too.

I've stopped bothering with local playlisted music. Yahoo Launch does a great job of throwing random tracks my way. For anyone who hasn't used it, all you need is a Yahoo account, then go to launch.yahoo.com and it should ask you some questions about your taste in music IIRC, then you can rate songs as they are played, it remembers your choices and learns your tastes, top stuff.

I haven't calculated it, but I have a 30 gig drive full of music, and about 100 CDs' worth. So that amounts to somewhere around 100 gigs.

I've got about 700 CDs. What does that work out as when converted to hard drive space?

Well let's say the average 20-track CD, when ripped at 192kbs, amounts to 50mb. Some are more, some are less, but let's use 50mb as an average.

700 CDs @ 50mb each.

700Mb = 0.7Gb

50 x 0.7 = 35

= 35Gb

= quite a lot. ;p
