Eating out

Postby kirkyguy » Thu Mar 25, 2004 3:27 pm

I got to thinking about this after reading about the Buck Rogers burger bar wish i had been to it...having kids any time we go into town it has to end in a Mcd or BK, Pizzahut ,KFC,..When i was younger i only remember ever going to Wimpy in Midland st, and a very special treat of The Spaghetti house prior to going to see Jaws...so what i want to know is where did people eat pre fast food mania..

Chip shop, traditional style cafe, city bakeries, restaurants in department stores...There were many options for eating dubious food even before the arrival of multinational fast food places.

Wimpey was probably the first of these, the one in Ingram Street was the one my folks took us to on a Saturday when we were in town. Still there afaik.

Kardomah tea house on Buchanan Street, just north of Gordon Street, same side as TGI Fridays. Classy tea and coffee.

Wendy's restaurant, about four floors up, West George Street, one block west of West Nile Street. It had a wishing well that I was given a penny to put in.

Ah the days when a wee trip to town was an adventure ...

Eating out pre fast food

Postby skintobalinto » Thu Mar 25, 2004 10:21 pm

The light bite - City Bakeries in Shawlands ahhhhh pie beans and chips, food of the gods. Who need burgers and buckets of chicken to clog up your arteries when you can do it with good old fashioned traditional fare. :D

Incidentally - it is now a Burger King
