Farme Castle and Coal Mine

Postby BigG1981 » Wed Apr 24, 2019 12:20 pm

Does anyone have any info or decent photos of Farme Colliery and the castle that was at Baronald St in Rutherglen, we are doing a project at college where we are trying to create a 3D/VR map of the mine and its shafts aswell as a 3D model of the castle. Ive done a search online and there seems to be very little in the way of info surrounding the castle itself and photos are limited to one corner/side of the castle

Considering the place was demolished in the 60s im surprised there is no real records kept of it

any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi Big G,

You probably searched already but Google images has a few images of the castle and the colliery. On the plus point the Newcomen engine from the colliery has been preserved at the Summerlee Heritage Park so you can inspect it first hand.
Good luck with the project

Thanks Tom

I have indeed checked google, facebook, here, cammore, scran, virtual mitchell, sent smoke signals, held a seance and its one of the biggest mysteries ive came across. the land got redeveloped and the records of the coal mine and castle have all but dissapeared or been destroyed

The lack of records is puzzling. Have you had a look at the NLS maps site?

I captured these screenshots of the area:
