I've been to Venice twice but only for the day each time, I'd love to stay and see in at night. Those pictures are amazing. I've been in August, whenit was very hot and crowde4d and at the beginning of NOvember when it was not quite so hot, still warm though and almost as crowded.
You're right, it costs a lot to go to the toilet and the gondolas are really expensive too. There were 4 of us when we went in November so we got a water taxi instead whihc was a lot cheaper and much more exciting, we felt like we were in a James Bond film :)

When I've gone it's always been first two weeks of April or, even better, first two weeks of December. Not choked with tourists coming off the cruise ships and hardly any waiting to get into places. ( I wandered round the Palazzo Ducale and almost had the place to myself once ).

Mind you, this was when I was getting almost two Euros to the pound and Ryanair were flying to Treviso, so it was cheap as chips all round. Although Ryanair charged me 50p to smell the chips.

I dont know if we were lucky and had a quiet week but appart from the odd school party taking up the whole path we didnt feel it to be overly busy. It wasnt exactly quiet but there werent the hoards of people we had been led to expect.

We justified the gondola ride at 80euros as we both changed £250 and got 280euro so the 40 euros extra we put together and called the gondola ride a freebie and still came home with euros at the end of the 6 days.

Anyway, as they seem to be going down well I have added more pics to flickr today, here is a taster of day 5 and you know where to go for the rest.

That last shot is just grand. Venice looks so small and unlikely from the air.
All the world seems in tune on a Spring afternoon, when we're poisoning pigeons in the park.

'Small and Unlikely' - they should put that on the tourist brochures! :)

When I was in that same spot with my sister, she decided the two lions were called Basil and Marco. :)

Wouldnt Parsley be more apropriate than Basil?

I waited ages for the dafty to shift her arse off the lion but I ended up losing patience and just taking the shot. What was even weirded was she seemed to be on her own, I could understand her sitting there if she was getting her picture taken.
