Noticed on First buses, that above the bus serial number on the back, is now appearing a single number on a white background. So far I have seen a 1,2 or 3. Any idea what they are for?

European emission standards rating system for buses and LGV's.
It's used to define and identify the acceptable limits for exhaust emissions of new vehicles sold in EU member states. depending on how old the vehicle is and type of vehicle you can expect ratings between 1 & 5 with 5 being the optimum. First Bus mark their buses for the sake of expediency as they are moved around the country so much it makes it easier for maintenance staff to check.

See Page 38 for details.
"I before E, except after C" works in most cases but there are exceptions.

Thanks for both answers.
If 1 is the worst then both Overtown and Blantyre depots must run some of the worst emission buses!

Aye noticed the fares increase poster on the bus today, out my way seems the network 4/10 week tickets are going up by nearly 10% and this is when the price of fuel is the lowest for some time and after they decimated services in the Cumbernauld area, bunch of money grabbing bandits. Also noticed they are forcing the under 20/students to pay the the full fare.

Spill.

The rise in the First Week/Month is shocking. I will seriously think twice about buying it. Is this preparing us for the Smartcard [fiasco] about to come to the buses?

that was bound to happen when half of its route turned into a 38B. it the old excuse of "no one is using it". no wonder when bus services are cut to the bone. people are bound to find alternatives.
