Were the Lodging houses the same as the Poorhouse?
What does 'Model' mean?
Is there any details or lists of all the Lodging houses from 1800's to around early 1900's anywhere?

model lodging houses pretty much sprung up in glasgow to house men who came in from other areas to work in the big industries here.the potent mix of men away from home with a wage in their pocket it wasnt too long until the alcohol drinking began to become more frequent and these places began to become as run down as the residents occupying them.

"I before E, except after C" works in most cases but there are exceptions.

The Lodging House Mission is still running, although they have adapted their scope over the years.

This is from their website, explaining a bit about the history of the organisation:

"-What was all that then? - What? - THAT. - That was Glasgow"

Here's the one in North Woodside; link is to a new website on the area. The pic is from RCAHMS, not the Virtual Mitchell.

Now these poor folk are put into flats on their own and left to their own devices. Most end up in such poor condition they are put into care homes.
