Thanks Eggman and Banjo, excellent bit of additional info, I like the idea of naming streets after local people who have contributed to the local community, helps keep their memory alive.

There was an article on Woman's Hour last week about how few streets are named after women.
I hear the people sing.

Good ones Norrie and Mungo Dundas

John Deas & Co may still be in existence, I came across a John Deas & Co, manufacturer of machinery for food, beverage and tobacco processing at Dobbies Loan and Robert Pool has some old adverts on his flickr site but the address is different.

Brownlie & Murray seem to have a very similar business to A &J Main and went out of business in the 1980s

Hi Cell all the Structural Engineering companies in the Possill/ Lambhill area have all been closed and demolished, in fact all the places I worked in are gone, nothing to do with me right enough :D , only Babocks at Renfrew are still in business, albeit in a lot smaller way from when I was laid off 1993

This sign was on a metal door in the basement of an office building on Buchanan Street.

Hi Mungo Dundas, thats a belter
Donald Clerk, Structural Engineers, situated when in business, across from Shawfield Stadium
They supplied the steelwork for the Copland Road stand at Ibrox stadium, late 50s early 60s, that was demolished to make what's there now
