New Boiler

Postby Beavis64 » Tue Sep 04, 2012 7:31 pm

Does anyone know a shop/factory/company that sells new boilers to the public?
We were quoted £760 for a Dimplex 30kw boiler with flue and time clock included by a gas engineer, who was my wife's friend's fiance.
But to cut a long story short, her friend has now dumped the boiler guy and we no longer have contact with him to take him up on the boiler offer.

Tried looking around and phoning a few places but no one seems to know where to get them at that price.

Any help/info most appreciated.
Cheers

Bevis

Try Willam Wilson Plumbers merchants , i bought a vokera 30kw from them about 5 years ago , it was a model that was being discontinued got £200 of the list price which was £750 and they deliverd it for free as well, has done me well so far, make sure you get a Digital clock timer with remote on whatever make you buy as the mechanical you have to manualy switch on and off which is a pain.

WW has several branches in the city.

Whatever happened to the 'this isn't personal, it's just business' school of thought?

I did all my boiler and radiator stuff for the flat from http://www.mrcentralheating.co.uk

They do good prices on all sorts of radiators and towel rails etc, and have a big range of boilers in stock for collection. Out in Hillington, and when you turn up there is always a steady stream of proper engineers in collecting boilers for installation, so if you buy from there you are at least cutting out the middle man in that department. Until you come to get someone to install it that is....

have a look though - they have always been good and reliable and the boiler is fine. Good on returns as well as some fanny (me) bought all the wrong thermostats first time round....

In the matter of boilers. I have a 14 year old combi boiler which doesn't respond to the timer. Either always on or always off.

I took it apart this morning to discover 'someone' had put a paperclip across two of the terminals - that may be the problem.

However, being a cautious soul, I had disconnected the electrical power supply from the wall, the kind where the cable vanishes into a hole in the cover plate.

To my surprise, the clock timer is still flashing the two dots : between the hours and minutes.

If I've disconnected the supply, where is it getting power from?

Thanks for your thoughts.

Just a guess, but do they not have an internal battery so that, in the event of a power cut, the clock doesn't need resetting?

Dunno. I'm trying to wrestle the clock from its housing but the Phillips screws are well tight.
