Two partisan drones moan about partisan drones from the other side. Yawn. And we wonder why people are put off politics?

It took you 25 posts in five years to write the above gem. That must have been some provocation. Which bit stung you?

Answer before 2015.
"I before E, except after C" works in most cases but there are exceptions.

The Evening Times has gone steadily downhill over the years - doing some research recently and looking at old articles I was struck by the difference in quality.

Just the other week I was I noticed their front page story was about a "Glasgow Gran" who had gone for lunch and found a parking fine on her car when she returned 8O 8O 8O

And they wonder why newspaper sales are dropping.........

ET journalism has been steadily going down hill for several years now.Scotland Tonight had several of the industry professionals in a few weeks ago for a short talk on the declining sales of newspapers around the country.

Edit:

The ET has almost become the "In House Paper" of Glasgow City Council due to the amount of council PR stuff it contains. What happemned to the old investigative stuff? The court reports? How many are interested in Thursday nights "local girls and guys" in night clubs and what 18 year olds drink? The back pages I no longer read.Full of speculation regarding two Glasgow football teams. When the Purcell affair broke it was interesting that much of the information came from the "Edinburgh" media. Plus trying to sell an "Evening" paper at 7am for 50p against the 30p Sun and Daily Record seems strange. The Record is having quite a battle with the Sun/ Metro(free) and Daily Mail.

Interesting to note Rosie Kane accusing Tommy Sheridan of "using the bedroom tax to rebuild his political career,........" whilst she uses Tommy Sheridan to try to rebuild her political career.

Newspapers are in decline for two reasons IMHO, firstly the internet obviously where we can access news and opinion, anywhere, any place for free - and why waste precious trees and covering the place with litter when you can have it electronically.

But secondly it is because we are as a society, getting more educated and less receptive to having editors' opinions rammed down our throats - we are fed up with political bias in the press (perhaps fed up with politics full stop - the fact that we have a hung parliament is testament to this) - and I for one like to look at the arguments on complex issues myself and make up my own mind on 'who is right and who is wrong'.

I routinely ignore the Mail and the Express because they thrive on right wing rhetoric and doom-and-gloom; equally the Record tries to claim it is an "old Labour" paper, yet still supports the Blairites. As others have alluded to the ET is just a Glasgow City Council propaganda machine. The Sun has always baffled me where its allegiances lie (the Scottish Sun supports the SNP, yet nationally it leans right), the Independent and the Guardian are the two I tend to read the most.

This report was out last month by the beep, i forgot to post it on this thread.

Does anyone on the forum still buy a newspaper ? being an ex news vendor and making my living from the trade previously for many years, i'm the biggest traitor of all and havent bought anything for many years since i've went online and enjoy the digital versions of newspapers. Looks like a slow demise but looks as if this physical format of news will cease to be soon.

Figures released by the Audit Bureau of Circulation (ABC) revealed that almost every national daily and Sunday title recorded declining numbers.
The only exception was the 'i' which reported an increase of almost 12% while all the major titles reported year-on-year decreases between June 2012 and last month.
The falling circulations have hit tabloid, broadsheet and the mid-market.
Some have reported large double digit percentage falls in average sales.
The Herald and Sunday Herald as well as the Scotsman and Scotland on Sunday have removed themselves from the national figures and are now included in the ABC regional newspapers report.

The figures published by ABC were:

  • The Times: -1.8% from 19,004 to 18,668.
