Camcorders for 2009

Postby BrigitDoon » Fri Dec 26, 2008 11:21 am

I'll confess to knowing slightly less than bugger-all about camcorders, never mind what's hot and what's not for the coming year.

My dear parentosauri have indicated to me that a camcorder would be an ideal birthday present. (The date's not far away).

I'm looking for something to mount on my tripod for blow-downs and ship launches and I'll hand-hold the Canon-DSLR instead. Price range unknown, but I'll guess a figure of £200-300 to play with, though there's plenty of scope for negotiation. Mum won't pay for crap. "Buy cheap, buy twice" is her motto.

If it can handle fast moving subjects such as fighter aircraft and classic sports cars, so much the better.

Suggestions dangling from the bottom of an opening-camcorder-thread-gambit please. :)

I've got a Panasonic NV-GS15 still for sale from the last Police auction I was at BD.

24x optical zoom, 800x digital zoom, image stabilization, p-in-p, back light, night vision, still camera, dv tape or SD card .. all the usual gubbins.

Comes with carry case, charger, spare battery, leads and strap .. some tiny scratches on the plastic body but works just fine.

PM me if you're interested.

I would buy a Panasonic without hesitation if I were looking for a new camcorder.

Check the prices in both Currys and John Lewis and cut a deal.Remember that John Lewis does a 3 year guarantee free. You want to at least get tapes and a bag free,Jessops will want your business too so take your time over it,stop for tea, ponder.

I have had the same Panasonic camcorder for about ten years,it was one of the first MiniDV ones and it has not let me down once.I cant recommend them highly enough.

Let us know how you get on.

Pretty sure JL will also price match any high street shop.

If it has to be a high street thing then fair enough, but I love hotukdeals.com - always nice shiny things I want but don't need...

I would think any well known brand camcorder would be fine. Whatever you do, check out whether there is a discount available. Try: http://www.myvouchercodes.co.uk/home Hope this link works.

I bought a microwave oven. Comet online had it discounted with an online voucher code. Salesman in shop gave it to me for the discounted price no hassle.
