Hi all, this thread just keeps getting better. Peejay i to remember having my confirmation disco in St Roberts hall :)
I was brought up in Newfield Square which in its day was a great place to stay and play, saying the only thing to spoil it all was when the Parky chased you from having a sidey in the putty :).

It comes after the Christening Disco and the First Holy Communion Disco: only difference is the Archbishop DJs the Confirmation disco.
"I before E, except after C" works in most cases but there are exceptions.

Due to my inexperience of posting, I have had to re-post the below illistrations.

The first one is of the "Playhut" which was situated in the middle of the Househill Park in the 70s.

Image

The next one is of the unusual "Chain Tree" please note the brickwork in the bottom of the tree, the stone boat and the sand pit, far right of the illistration just outside the fence is the fossil "Petrified" tree.

Hi Alex, many thanks for the photographs of the Church Hall and the Houses on Peat Rd. The Church Hall hasn't changed much except that there used to be a wall round it (which we sat on, waiting for the "Scramble") and I see that the Lane has been fenced off, that used to be our shortcut to Househill Park. In the 50s and 60s, before Betting Shops were legalised, there used to be Bookies Runners, one such gentleman stood at the end of the Lane, near the entrance to the Park collecting Betting Slips - I don't know if he hung around long enough to pay out the winners!! I remember my Pal lived in one of those Houses in your photograph, I got up one morning to find that the entire family had done a Moonlight Flit - I haven't seen him since!

The lane was fenced off some years ago because of the amount of dumping that was taking place.

Where you by chance heading fr here Bombardier?

I am sure I have a photo of the other end of the lane through the park I will look it out and post it up soon.

Alex, that was exactly the spot I was heading for, doesn't seem to be much change, apart from the Lane being fenced off. Very good photographs, thank you.

Hi Kiwi2 what part of NZ are you in? I have lived in Auckland since 1966.

Have just discovered this forum. I lived in Roughmussel in the 50's and 60's, just by the Hurlet, and went to Levern Primary School . I was in the first intake to the new secondary school, Craigbank, which I understand was demolished because of falling roles - no doubt due to the mass exodus of we baby boomers - and then rebuilt fairly recently. Before the new secondary school was built we travelled all over the place to access the various annexes widely spread throughout the neighbourhood.
