Cambuslang Pilot

Postby gap74 » Mon Jun 28, 2004 4:44 pm

From "Around Old Cambuslang" by Ian L. Cormack (1993):

p.4 - Cambuslang boasted two newspapers - The Cambuslang Pilot from 1895 and the Cambuslang Advertiser from 1896, both lasting into the 1960s before being taken over by the Rutherglen Reformer and the East Kilbride News respectively.

Nice little book, lots of pictures, most of which have been scanned and put up on Ed Boyle's Cambuslang website at:

Local libraries will probably have them all on microfilm. Motherwell Heritage Centre have all the Motherwell Times, Wishaw Press, etc including a few local papers not in existance any more.

Try East Kilbride Library, I think they might have it. There's a website called Newsplan (http://www.newsplan.org) who scan newspapers and prvide a copy of te microfilm to local libraries. They have the Cambuslang Pilot on the schedule and it states South Lanarkshire Library. I think the library with the Achive material is East Kilbride. Failing that they'll be able to tell you where you need to go.
Too few hours in the day.
