Are you thinking of Maryhill Baths, in Gairbraid Avenue?
I went there when I was a wee boy.

I had a swatch around the Church Street/Torness Street pool façade yesterday. One of the dossers from the west end doss brigade (Hobo Joe, as I call him) was in attendance, sunbathing in his black overcoat, hat and ferocious beard combo. Joe decided to ask me 20 questions before giving me “permission” to take photos of the area. He seemed paranoid that I’d take shots of him lying prostrate on the ground (not a good look for a west end dosser, you see).

I hope to have word back from the developers involved in this project (re: access).

I know the very fellow. I spent most of the last fortnight in the Western with a kidney infection, and the guy was often down in the smoking shelters in the hospital when it was raining. He also frequents the bins in and around the hospital. My girlfriend works in the Western also, and sees him most mornings in the wee street that conects Byers Road and Church Street.

I took a surreptitious photo of Joe as he "got out of the pool". I'll post it later.

It’s funny that there seems only to be 3 or 4 west end dossers. There’s Joe; the fat bloke who sits on the bench opposite Little Italy on Byres Road; the tall, scary looking dosser who always has his hands in his pockets and frequents the area beside the old Hyndland Station; and then there’s the munchkin-faced dosser who wanders around outside Peckham’s on Clarence Drive. In a bizarre way, it’s quaint to have a familiar troupe of hobos.

That looks to be in better nick than Govanhill and Govanhill is being brought back into use.

As I recall, Church St always kept the water temperature really high.
I hear the people sing.
