suspicious mail?

Postby theboyjohnston » Sat May 09, 2009 12:06 am

I know I am not a frequent poster but I have just received mail from a relatively new member "profilicus" entitled "Forum administration" urging me to follow a link "Important to read!"

Do the mods know about this or do I smell shite?

With a link to a Russian website. Aye, right, I'm going to click on that. :D

Can't fault him/her for effort, mind - they've been on all day.

I've not had one yet and I feel left out :(

We seem to have a bot at work: every time I click on its profile the page says it last visited that very minute, and 'who's online' always says it's composing a private message. Somebody's a clever wee thing...

If it was a bot, it's a pretty crap one to have taken all day to work its way through the membership list sending pms. Even if there is an enforced delay between posts.

If it's an actual person, then I hope at least the commission is good.

Wonder how that would work, anyway?

[Edit] : The commission process, not the Viagra.

I'd never noticed the Who's online thing before - cheers, LP. Hughie, stop reading that PM. :D

Woo hoo! It finally reached me :D

Being fearless and equipped with a Mac, I had a look at the link. Load of pish, needless to say. And I could've swore that was Larry Grayson in the wee photo.

It's quite an inventive user name though: profilicus. Goes through user profiles (apparently by date joined); is quite prolific. No? Oh suit youselves, I'm away to my bed

PS a wee Googling of its name brings up links from umpteen forums, all mentioning the same thing.

I'm really off to bed now. Bye!

Well spotted Josef. I'm assuming I'm the Hughie you refer to. Haven't been here for a while so maybe it wasn't such a bad thing. Need to re-acquaint myself with the auld toon seeing I'm winging back there in a few short weeks. :)

Surprised this hasn't been reported earlier via the system - the wee triangle above each post.

Aye, that was you, Hughie. You just happened to be the person checking their PMs at the moment I checked out the 'Whos online' function that Lucky poet helpfully pointed out.

Mind you, the PM spam hasn't half brought the dormant members out the woodwork, judging by the folk online at the moment. Hello, all.

Either the bot didn't get so far as me or the real person knows not to offer Viagra to someone called Brigit.
