Any reason why member post counts don't always tally ?

Postby glasgowken » Sun May 20, 2007 8:42 am

Why does the post count, and posts matched in the "Find all posts by...xxxx...." search not always tally ?

My own post count shows a difference of 59 missing. I know I post a load of shite, but 59 posts missing ? 8O

I don't know about this forum, but on another I moderate, threads are sometimes moved to a moderator only section when they are deemed unnaceptable content. These posts no longer show up on the sections open to public view and are subtracted from the total visable. The reason for the discrepancy might be 2 separate totalling systems in conflict with each other.

Alternatively, they could just be messing with your mind. ::):

There are some forums where a post you make to start a new thread doesn't count towards your total.
238 to 127. All in all a good afternoon's work

I would guess that the post count in the profile gets incremented in the database each time someone posts a new post, rather than having to do a count every time the username is displayed it just stores and retrieves a single value.

When a posted is merged or deleted the count prob does not re-adjust like it should.

Just a guess though.
Eighty percent of success is showing up.

I've just read on another forum that PMs count as a post on some types of board.
