Just hit the 'Quote' button on Sharon's post, and you'll see how it's done.

or

You missed a 'close bracket' after the URL in the first one, and you probably need to put some text after it so that the link doesn't look like this :

http://www.scotsman.com/news/politics/scottish-independence-westminster-has-not-considered-what-the-implications-are-for-independence-mp-1-2405403

jodieohdoh wrote:Tobester, in the wee toolbar on your screen above where you type your post, click on the youtube= button. That will paste the relevant code in for you. Copy the URL of the youtube vid you want to use, and paste it after the "=" sign in the code, e.g. for this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NoxEETZ_bJg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; , you would put:
(but without the space after the equals sign (I put that in so that you'd see the code).

I am trying not to appear thick here but is this still the way of embedding a YouTube video? When I right click the YouTube video screen and use the "Copy video URL" option; pasting it within the youtube= function as shown above it still doesn't show the video as it did in the above post.

It can't be that difficult but maybe I am missing something. As always all and any help is appreciated

Hi Shuggy, you just need to grab the url from your browser address bar now. Then click the youtube= button which will insert the BB tags into the edit box, then paste your copied URL in after the = sign, click preview to see if it works, then submit.

Code: Select all

Thanks Sharon; can't believe I have used computers this long without realising that was the browser bar!

Seems grabbing a working link from youtube is getting harder... but heres how to get a youtube video link you can use to embed a video on the forums.

But grabbing a you tube link that works isn't easy - prob since they changed how they embed vids in their own pages. But, here's how I got the link to embed above.

-On you tube video page
-click the "share this video link" (under the video)
-paste into browser
-grab new link from browser
-pop that into the forum youtube tag
Code: Select all

-give it a go :)

An update to this - though given the ways of YouTube this might not work for very long. Grab the URL as used to happen, straight from the address bar (forget about the 'Share' links). Click on the 'youtube=' button, then move yer cursor so it's between '=' and the square bracket:

Then, and this is the recent change, you have to remove the 's' from the 'https' part of the jumbled up pile of nonsense that results. An example:

Make the first part read [youtube=http://www.youtube etc, and bingo!
