I cerainly did :D Out to the end of the bowsprit to do lookout duties, and right up to the top yard arm to set sail. The lads who did this for a living must have been tough nuts. I even got the chance to be the gunners mate :P When the ship leaves port one of the guns is fired, (a bag of gunpowder with some newspaper stuffed on top.) We fired off when leaving Greenock, pity we couldn't have used a cannon ball, ::): . Anyway the gun has to be washed out in case any powder is still smouldering before the next shot is fired. So as well as being a sailor, I did gunners mate, lookout, ships engineer, (the outboard had crap in the carb), galley boy (washing the dishes), and helmsman. All in 3 days! We slept in hammocks and had the best of times :D
