Posted: Wed Jan 18, 2006 10:10 pmAhh that's right I think I remember the story from my days on the Clydeshipping boards (before it was a subscription service). Denny's built that in whatever year and people just sort of unoficially changed it to Queen Mary II once the Cunard Queen Mary came along.

Most with have little or no personal memory of the ship but I certainly sailed on her many times as a bot. Often all the way from the original quay at the Broomielaw.
As for HMS Smiter I know RN uses ships names over again but would this be HMS Smiter a merchant ship conversion to aircraft carrier in WW2.

I was aproaching the big 6 0h
and we were out for a walk on the river bank and there was the Bark Endeavour, on a visit, tied up beside the Science Centre. Now I've always wondered if I could get up square sailships rigging so here was my chance, a 3-4 day trip to Whitehaven. How would I manage the Futtock Shrouds 
No worries, with a young crew, mostly Canadians and Australians all us volounteers had a great time. They took us right up to the highest yardarms and had us setting and furling sails. The experience of a lifetime.
I even managed to fix the outboard moter for them so that we could get the pics of the boat in the Irish Sea.
