Volunteer here, not unhappy with neilmc's treatment of the pic with the Morris at Capercleuch AA Box. Nicely done.

The modern give away is the BT joint dangling on the telegraph pole.

Years ago it would have been a lead cable or the later PVC. The joint casing would have been a bottle ender named such as it resembled a bottle.

Also my wife's Sun Glasses are like welding goggles. Sorry dear I mean Designer Wear.

Lovely car.

Proper chrome bumpers too, rather than those plastic monstrosities the Murcans insisted on!

Volunteer here, Yes indeed Boxer6 real chrome. Worth the extra cost.

Today's Pics. In the car park at the junction of Byres Road and University Avenue a curious little van. A VW lookalike.

Dexter St Clair posted a pic of this van in July 2013. The van looks a wee bit jaded now. Some TLC required I reckon.

Looked on the intergoogle and from other sites it appears to be a modified Subaru Samba.

Nice wee promotional vehicle.

Volunteer here, Yes indeed Boxer6.

Thanks for the compliment. She goes by the name of Maisy.

Purchased four years ago and I have covered 80,000 miles during that time. That's more than the 65,000 on the clock when I bought her following her registration in 1961.

An every day car, not just for high days and holidays.

She makes everyone smile. All ages from young kids to the senior citizens.

Owner of the VW lookalikey is currently living locally.

You'll see that vehicle in car park regularly for a while

Volunteer here, Thank you old jock.

I looked in the cab and it is littered with loads of Parking Tickets from the Pay & Display machine.

If you cast your mind back to the TV programme “The Gaffer” starring Bill Maynard. In the opening scene he arrives at his tacky old Rover P6 3500S and rips a Parking Fine off the windscreen. Gets in and lobs it into the rear seats where you can hardly see the seats for previous tickets. As he drives off the pile on the dashboard fall on the floor.

The Subaru Samba VW lookalike reminds me of the scene.

Volunteer here, BTJustice nice to see classics together.

Today's post is two classics on a sunny day in Clarendon Street Glasgow.

A beautiful Rover P5, pristine and looking the part beside Maisy Morris.

Neilmc, fancy doing an "instamatic" job on this pic?

When I was younger, we never referred to Rovers by their 'P' numbers: it was, like, Rover 90, or Rover 2000, or in this case, Rover 3.5 coupe.

I tried to give your photo the treatment, but it looked pretty contrived, so don't want to demean your pic by reproducing the result here.

Never mind; here's one of my dad out washing his Austin Maxi, a car he swore he would never buy because of the transverse engine - this was the third one he owned...

p.s. that Escort van: does anyone remember who 'Planet' were?

Volunteer here, thanks for trying neilmc.

The Ford Escort Van has a Registration Mark that would have originated in North London. Wimbledon, Boreham and Sidcup. My thoughts are a National Chain of some kind.

Does that jog any memories?

Love your Dad's jersey. That was the era when every man was given a Val Doonican Jersey at Christmas time.

You'd better wear that he would be told Mum gave you it as a present.

...and the Rupert The Bear trousers: my brother and his mates used to give him pelters whenever he wore them.

The photo was taken in Penilee, near Hillington, and I found this in the 1988 Glasgow 'phone directory...

...which led to this in North West London.

I think they were the same company, so thanks for providing the clues, Volunteer.
