There's no question it's a great subject but excellent photography is often about so much more. In this case the right place at the right time and the strength to resist to lure of colour.

Thanks TEM.

It does come in colour too, soft hazy hues of blues and greens. But I do like the timelessness of b&w and this is a timeless place. It was also one of the few shots I managed to grab without rain on the lens.

Not in shot are some sea kayakers, I'd really love to see all this from the sea.

I'm red/ green colour blind and much (many?) of the 'subtleties' of outdoor colour photography are lost on me. I really enjoy an image where the (to me) distractions of colour contrast are removed and it's easier to concentrate on the subject.

As I said, it's a great subject but the pic is sooooooooooo much more.
