I know someone - he posted on here a long time ago actually - who made his own tilt-shift lens out of an old regular lens that he disassembled and a bicycle tyre inner tube. It was like a lens baby except that you need to keep hold of it since there's not much rigidity to it. I have no idea about instructions though; just thought if I put the idea into other people's heads, they might take inspiration.

I do believe your seed of an idea has fallen on fertile ground.

I remember being nine years' of age and contriving a camera from a small cardboard box, a microscope lens, two microscope slides and a sheet of carbon paper. It was very primitive, but it did pick up the shapes of the clouds in the immediate vicinity of the sun. It's a wonder the whole plot didn't self-combust.

Unfortunately it's not real tilt/shift, it's just what we're doing here:

All post. All shot in continuous mode holding down the button. Altered and cropped in Motion, Processed in Photoshop and finished in Color.

He hasn't graduated any of his edges between the sharp and the blurry parts, but I agree it's a cool video. I especially like the airport scene because the angle to the ground is quite shallow so the depth of field is quite realistic, and the bit with the sliding cars at the end.

Re: Miniaturisation (Wee Planets)

Postby BrigitDoon » Thu Mar 05, 2009 11:10 am

I found this interesting technique and since the photographer has called it "Wee Planets", I thought I'd stick it in this thread.

I don't think I'd have the patience to do it, but I'd be interested to see someone have a go at some Glasgow landmarks.

Volunteer here, Why is miniaturisation such large word?
Here are some pics that fit the Forum.
The Lego Bricks frightened me. Having played with Lego as a kid I was used to pieces you can pick up with one hand.
The Miniature HMS Ark Royal reflects the cuts in defence spending. Note new Matelot’s uniform.
The Mitsubishi Samba is acute conversion that can be done with a kit to make it look like a junior VW.
