When this building was being converted from the Sheriff Court to a trendy bar, Tom Shields, at that time writing the Herald Diary, held a competition to suggest a name for it. The clear winner was the "Bar L" in honour of the immediate destination of many of its former customers, but the owners settled on a more boring one.
