Wow - thanks for the ID folks - pretty much knew I could rely on the knowledgeable people of HG :)
I really should read what it says on the badges , but I always get carried away just taking a picture of the old things ::):

the thing i went with was the grilles under the headlights

just looking at all the pics, tried comparing the wing mirrors, indicators and wee things like that - i think it was of a time where such items were optional - round/square/no wing mirrors, indicators in the wing/on the front/non-existant ::):

lovely wee car though!
hey, d'ye think it's ootside yir in?

I saw the winged "A" on the bonnet which identified it as an Austin straight away. The rounded wings show that it predates the '50s A35 which it closely resembles. It was simply a matter of looking up '40s Austins in motorbase.

'66 Vanden Plas Princess on Taunton plates. My old neighbours used to have one of the same vintage. Powered by Rolls-Royce, 4.0 litre straight six.

If i remember correctly they were developed as a joint venture between BMC and Rolls Royce that was to be branded as a small Roller until they got cold feet and pulled out thus percipitating Rolls Royces' slide into Administration in 1971.An amazing car and one i have had the pleasure of a run in and it was just like a Rolls.

The car's the star in this boys-and-their-toys action drama that, unfortunately, has too little action to cover for the absence of plot. Nicolas Cage plays a reformed car thief who is forced to pull off an impossible job - steal 50 top-of-the-range cars in four nights - for bad guy Christopher Eccleston, in return for his brother Giovanni Ribisi's life. Cage ropes in his old crew - including ex-flame Angelina Jolie and silent-but-deadly Vinnie Jones - for the job, but it's over an hour before we get any stealing or crashing of any description. There's a nice chase at the end, but the deficiencies in the storyline drive it headfirst into a cul-de-sac of unrealised tension.

I've seen it before and there's no plot. I think I'll turn the sound down and put something on the stereo. The cars are worth goggling at.

The Nicolas Cage version is pish.

The original 1974 version is the best car movie EVER. Written, directed, financed and starring a scrap dealer from California, H.B.Halicki.
He also does all the stunts which is how he ended up killing himself making the sequel.
Still no solid plot and acting is ropey but there is a 45 minute car chase staring all the 70's muscle cars, most being wrecked.

Dave.
