... behind this picture? I think it looks like central Glasgow, perhaps subtly altered.

It was part of a mobile gaming advert.

This shot was from the Ad campaign for Nokia's ngage gaming phone, more famous for starting "side talking." In order to use the phone to make calls you had to hold it side on to your face, looking like a total twat in the process. Might just have had something to do with its complete commercial failure. It even spawned a spoof fansite:

Along with a petition for Nokia to bring side talking back, which unbelievably has attracted over 900 sigs.

It looks like St Vincent Street taken from outside the Bank of Scotland building.

I'd agree, the canopy on the near left looks like the entrance to the 123 St Vincent St office block, and further up on the right you can see the thick black overhang, on the modern building housing The Living Room restaurant (150, just up from Bar Buddha and Arisaig).

However, the red tarmaced crossing shown looks like it's on the block between West Nile and Renfield, which is obviously wrong. I think this pic's a merge of shots taken at St Vincent Place and Renfield St. Weird - maybe the photographer thinks the All Bar One/TSB building's too ugly? :)

First thought on seeing the photo was St Vincent Street but now not so sure.

It does have one or two of those Glasgow Bus Shelters.

Heavy Traffic light Evidence suggests West Regent Street. Any further mention of Cathcart /Maryhill Road warrants an immediate ban you have been warned

I can't follow the link. I can't even get on pixdaus.com - can anyone else? I've tried it from two different locations now.

Before reading any replies my immediate thought was St Vincent Street. However, it looks like there's a bit of Photoshop jiggery pokery going on, so it could possibly be an amalgamation of streets.

It's definitely St.Vincent Street. Since it was an advert any other corporate symbols or such like have been removed, like the ads in the bus shelters.

Looks to me like it was taken from some distance back, like in the square, with a big zoom. The red patch on the road is the crossing at Buchanan Street, then there's the parking area on the right outside All Bar One. The first set of lights is at West Nile Street, with the last right at the top of the hill being Blythswood Street.

It was a few years ago mind. I remember that red skip being there, had to be careful going past.
The hill goes up and down.
