The Golden Garter was part of the Hills Hotel owned by Reo Stakis. I worked in the public bar, The Rigg, from 1979 until it closed in 1988. The Golden Garter is still there but has been closed for years and the hotel and pub are now the Social Works building. Oh happy days....

I agree he is a brilliant entertainer who has been on the go for a long time. I had the privilege of meeting him at Hamilton Town Hall a long time ago. He also performed at my local boolin club. But does anyone out there know of his origins???

Marti Pellow is a good singer, so is Moira Anderson,(more classical) Charlene Spitteri is a smashing entertainer and probably a favourite of mine is Frankie Miller,he certainly wrote the most rock songs that were successful. Belle and Sebastian are also superb, I think Scotland has an enormous talent with groups and individuals that to pick one only would be sooooo difficult.

Hi robertpool, I wonder if you remember George Andrews, he worked the door there for some years. Regards Chris, I would also have thought he was very close to 65 as am I. I think Harry Nixon was a roady/ gofer for him for a number of years.

I checked with an agency and he is no longer under management. You best bet is to phone around the entertainment agencies and ask around.

I used to know his aunty who lived in Queens Park in the 1960's. Her name was Mrs Piggot. She was a very old lady then, so I think she has long since departed from this life.

I was in Kilwinning Masonic club (Scotland's Mother Lodge) on Sunday, and see that Chris is doing the cabaret on Boxing Night.

It's pretty surreal to see Wee Frankie mentioned in such exalted company 8O
