Greetings hidden Glasgowites

We're Aldomak, a traditional Scottish confectionery house specialising in the likes of Tablet, Fudge, Macaroon Bars, Snowballs and the like.

Over the past few months, we've been messing around with the recipes to improve the quality of our sweets to the point that we now think they're truly excellent However, we're also realists and think perhaps we've become too close to our concoctions. That is where you come in.

We need your feedback and we ask that you furnish us with your name and an address that we can send you the goody bag.

To alleviate any further worry, be assured that we as a company are registered with the ICO (the information commissioners office, whom deal with the marshalling of the Data Protection Act) and the data controller is our managing director. We will absolutely never give our your details to anyone, we will never spam you with offers or similar and we will only use your data in connection with the sending out of these products.

In the goody bag, you will receive: 2x bars of Tablet (multiple varieties), 2x bars of Fudge (we use the term fudge loosely), 2x Macaroon Bars, 2x 4 packs of Snowballs, a feedback form on each product and a SAE for you to send the form back to us.

And the thing is, being written in Scotland in the 1960s, not only is the word offensive but it's so gratuitous there's no way to explain how gratutious it is. Scotland - even Glasgow - in the 1960s was about as mono-ethnic as it's possible to be. Even now, in large parts of Scotland you look around and all you can think is "Where's everyone else?" So it was an offensive reference to people who weren't even there and didn't need to be referred to.

For all the professional lyric writer knew they were happy, smiling young black people who felt no pain but could be made fun of just because of their skin colour. Apart from Jackie Kay and her brother how many Picaninnies were in Scotland at the time who might have taken offence that a 19th century racial epithet was being used to advertise sweets? Did Lees still think there was mileage in using the coon image in selling their products.

Anyone remember Icebreaker choc bar? And wasn`t there an orange Texan bar for a while? Hey ho -- remember when you could get brown sauce flavour crisps?

Cant seem to find an orange Texan bar advert, i'm sure there was an orange flavour.

Prize bars were great too, probably the 1st of the health bars.



Did anyone ever taste these individual foil wraped cadburys bars ? they came in all different fillings like golden crisp, blackforrest and different exotic fillings. the chocolate tasted totaly different to the normal cadburys bars, i was told it was because they were made in ireland and the milk was different to what they used from the normal.

Anyone remember this? I do. But can`t remember what it actually tasted like! Anyone?

ruchazie rat,i do not recall ever seeing that one before but the wrapper suggests four flavours in one bar.

Now that I stop to think about it, that Skybar wrapper says its` made by Necco. Sounds suddenly familiar. Didn`t they do other stuff too way back in the 70`s? Drinks, biscuits or something? They still around???
