You can get MB bars in a wee shop in Clydebank! My uncle brings them to my Gran whenever he visits :)

What about the 1d caramel (last seen at 2p) and the giant pan drop? Not forgetting frying pans, tobermory tatties and that toffee that stretched and stretched to mention but a few. MB bars? You can get them at the sweetie stall inside the Barras along with soor plooms, black striped balls, pear drops, candy balls, kola cubes, pineapple chunks, rainbow drops and many, many more.

Chelsea Whoppers are now a different recipe. Apparently the guy that ran the business took the recipe to the grave with him.

You can get them in Mo's on Argyle Street.

Does anyone remember "Chew Chew Colas" ? They were also called "Argentinas" because they were blue & white striped like Argentina's football strip. Remember buying them from the ice cream van with a bottle of American Cream Soda while kicking a ball about. Ahh happy days. Doubt you get them anymore.

Remember these well. There was quite a craze for them at my school.

One thing you never see now is the guy going round the football ground selling macaroon bars. i guess now with all-seater stadia its not as easy to wander around unhindered.

Was it always the same guy or were there several of these entrepreneurial chaps?

Old fashoined sweets

Postby scallopboy » Tue Nov 01, 2005 4:05 pm

If you want to visit an amazing sweet shop, take a trip down to Moffat main street to the Moffat Toffee Shop. http://www.dalbeattie.com/moffat/traders/moffat-toffee/

You'll gain 2Kg just looking in the window!

As for fond memories of old sweets, remember the Aztec bar?

Does your weight gain have to be measured in metric because it's no longer possible to buy a quarter of your favourite sweets? :?:  :?: (That's a quarter of a pound for any children out there.)

Metric measurements

It depends on the age of the shop assistant whether you get a blank look. My local Queen's Café still understands the phrase "a quarter of Midget Gems please". You get the same look from young'uns when asking for a half oz of Golden Virginia.
