QE2 and John browns boatyard

Postby kitty732 » Wed Jul 15, 2009 7:54 pm

Still on family research....
Can anyone recommend any good web sites /books etc on the QE2 or about John Browns boatyard, Glasgow.
Or how I can go about getting names of the people who worked on the QE2/Browns?
There's a family tale that my grandmother's father worked for the QE2 during its build "something regarding drawings" but considering my family's financial status or education for that matter, I can't imagine that he was an architect. However, that said, it was always hinted that he had married below himself- to a family of female pipe smokers!

Thanks again to everyone who's answered my previous enquiries.

My dad worked on it and went on the maiden voyages. I vividly recall going to the launching as a wee girl - and breaking my leg on the way back! Try http://www.qe2.org.uk/ and
http://www.gla.ac.uk/services/archives/exhibitions/qe2/qe2photogallery1/ for the great photos.
Ye'll huv hud yer tea then?

Records for John Browns are held at Glasgow Uni archives
http://www.gla.ac.uk/services/archives/exhibitions/qe2/johnbrowncompanyclydebankltd/
Suggest you contact them directly

For "architect" use "engineering draughtsman" as someone who does drawings!

There's a chap who allegedly 'rescued' the John Brown's photo archive from the basement of Clydebank Town Hall a few years back and had a couple of hundred CDs made. I still can't remember his name.

I've mentioned this here before and did some digging at the time. I even contacted the firm who produced the CDs in case they had a spare left lying - they didn't. They never knew who the original client was, only who'd asked them to produce the CDs and that, of course, was me

I think I'm right in saying he'd been an accountant at JB and the CDs were to be a parting gift to former employees.
