Congestion in Glasgow city centre

Postby iamross » Mon Feb 23, 2009 9:32 pm

Hi

I'm looking for a bit of help for a project I'm doing at uni...

Does anybody drive to work in Glasgow city centre? If so, are there any areas that are particularly prone to congestion?

Any other points or rants about congestion are welcome.

Cheers

This time of year my nose is quite blocked.

I find rubbing the woman next doors chest with Vicks helps.

For past 2 weeks, Eveningtimes have been doing features on City Centre congestion under the heading "get Glasgow moving" - a quick Google should bring them up.

My driver normally has a good old moan about Bridge street, Eglington street, at rush hour, all those damned buses, full of nit ridden schemies.
Still lucan for me

-10 points, Lucan. Including immigrants would have had added effect.

Travelling to the Mearns to clean houses, shag the wives and dip your wine cellar.
"I before E, except after C" works in most cases but there are exceptions.

The right turn from West George Street into Renfield Street is notorious. The entire length of Renfield Street/ Union Street is a particularly bad area for congestion.

i don't think you are allowed to turn right from west george street onto renfield street.

for congestion in general, hundreds of buses come into the city centre from the south of the river going up oswald street onto hope street and hundreds of buses go back out the city by going down renfield and then union street.

all of these buses pulling in and out of stops mean that both of these streets are awful - particularly in the morning coming in and the evening going out.

i have in the past got off a bus coming into town just over the river and walked all the way up to the top of hope street at cowcaddens road before the bus has managed to catch up. that's about 1 mile all up hill.

the same going out of town - i have not been able to get on a bus as it was too busy at the stops at the bottom of union street and it being a summer evening started walking and got as far as the the carling academy - about half a mile - walking home.
