Found this fella's collection of pics from the early and mid 80s last night, is he one of us? Some great stuff there, including Garden Festival, Queen's Dock before the SECC, Eldon St when it still had a gracefully curving tenement, some Dumbarton stuff, some railway stuff and much more:

I love this shot. I'm not sure what the loco is (Deltic?) I love the gawkiness of the design.

I remember one of those hauling freight through Bridgwater one day with indecent haste and all that I could hear was a deep rumble. It wasn't breaking sweat.

That's a class 37, isn't it? Very distinctive pulsating diesel rumble, the soundtrack to many a summer in my youth as I fannied about in the old steelworks and bings round here.

But aye, don't be surprised that pics like those are kinda considered geek porn round here! Just have a look at some of the other threads and see how many of your photographic subjects have pages of posts dedicated to them - especially the tunnels!

Just out of curiousity, did you take these with any particular aim in mind, to record a disappearing cityscape, or were you just mucking around with cameras?

My second model railway set came with that engine. Even the model was a class machine.

The real life version hauled the sleeper trains I used to use. Glasgow Central to Plymouth for one.

These photographs are amazing.

Spooky, my second train set was a Hornby class 37 too, the first being based on a Lima Deltic. Then I diversified with a Dukes of Hazzard broken bridge racing set...

Hi gap74 - yes, I took these pics to record the changing landscape - old railway stations were a particular favourite as there seemed to be so many around Glasgow in my student days. Of course, I didn't know that scanners would be invented and I'd be able to share them....ah, technology!

looks like an eastfield 37 on the queen of scots rake

not my favorite loco we have 4 of them at bo'ness now, 37025 full restored 37175 almost there and 403/414 just arrived and getting full overhaul to mainline standard

Well I'm very glad that you took them and scanners and the internet came along to allow you to share them, they deserved to be seen by a wider and appreciative audience!
