I had dunrobin castle as well. The version to have now is made by Bachmann and with a chip and speaker you get the full experience in your loft, just ask my dad;

I've come across a picture from 1983 which I can't quite place. I think it's part of the old Riverside Line near to Partick - but I can't place the building and chimney on the right. Anyone got any ideas?

Took this picture Sept '06 from South St / Castlebank St. It can't be too far away from where your picture was taken. (I'm using the Uni, Kelvin Hall & Yorkhill Incinerator as references).

Had the expressway been built by 1983? It looks roughly like the where the old line was buried underneath the expressway.

gap74, you could very well be right, in this piccie the Kelvin Hall is partially obscured behind a white crane. And the train line is still behind the trees on the left (taken Jan '07)

Thanks gap74 and Squigster. I've had a look through some old maps and see that the Clydeside Expressway had been build before 1983 - it would be located just out of view on the left, curving to the right (in front of the blue train). My pic shows the section in between the Clydeside Expressway and Scotway House - latterly it seems to have been turned into a car park. The first of Squigsters pics seems to be the closest.

Brilliant photo! The above view must have been taken down the back of what was the old MacHarg Rennie & Lindsay car garage / dealers. This seems to be the remnants of the old railway line before they must have filled this bit in and made it part of their car forecourt (albeit out the back of the showroom). The expressway must be hidden to the left hand side if it's already been built. I spent many a time wandering round all the second hand cars in there in years gone by! Took this image this from google earth. The red line shows where the old railway line must have been with the chimney to the bottom right and the gable of the building that is visable in the photo being at the end of the red line. The blue cross shows where I'm guessing the picture was taken. At this point on Hayburn Street there is still an underpass (part of the old line?) connecting through to the BP garage.

Here's a couple of pictures I had taken from the Glasgow Harbour flats a few years back looking in this direction just before MacHargs was demolished....

Great piece of work, helpmaboab - thanks - and I think you're spot on. I didn't know the bridge still existed next to the petrol station - must take a trip down with the camera and see if I can get a before/after pic.
