QE2 at Greenock.

Postby br-cmr » Sat Oct 04, 2008 11:40 am

QE2 is due to make a final visit to Greenock tomorrow (Sunday 5 Oct).

Is anyone planning to go? What will be the best place to take photos?

It'll be busy...

From http://www.inverclydenow.com/ :

INVERCLYDE is gearing up for the farewell visit by classic liner QE2 tomorrow (Sunday).

Thousands of visitors are expected to line the coast as the ship, escorted by a Royal Navy warship and a huge flotilla of pleasure craft, heads up the Clyde for the last time.

QE2 is to become a hotel and entertainment centre in Dubai. She is at Belfast today.

The liner is expected off the Esplanade, Greenock approximately 12.15pm, and should be alongside at Greenock Ocean Terminal by 12.45pm.

There will be a fireworks display at 9.45pm with the QE2 departing Greenock at 10pm.

and..
SPECTATORS wanting to get a bit closer to the QE2 at Greenock will help Ardgowan Hospice raise cash.

Restricted access to Greenock Ocean Terminal is being permitted to the public for several hours during the iconic ship’s last visit to the Clyde on Sunday 5 October.

A £1 donation will be collected by the Greenock hospice from those wanting admission.

Spectators will be able to enter the terminal at the Campbell Street entrance for a better view, between 1 and 4pm.

There will be no admission to the ship itself.

Yes, I'm going down with my video camera. I believe the best views of her (arriving and departing) would be on the northern shore of the river - I read that as a comment on a forum after her last visit last year. I'm thinking of heading to Kilcreggan for about 11.00am - I understand that the channel is over that side of the river and she comes up on that side. When she was in last year she went over to that side after leaving Greenock. If the crowds (and traffic) from last year are anything to go by, it'll be very busy in Greenock/Gourock tomorrow.

Got some spectactular views (but no decent photos) as she came up the Clyde, first from Largs and then from Gourock, near the Cloch lighthouse and then just beside the outdoor pool.

Only photos I got were on the phone though.

Greetings,
I took a quick snap at Battery Park, was too busy looking at the boats to notice that some wag had been busy with a felt pen.

Seen from Helensburgh this evening. She is on her way to Queensferry, according to the BBC and should have sailed at 2200.

I've found a QE2 Itinerary >>

You'll need to be at South Queensferry tomorrow (7th) or Newcastle on Wednesday (8th) if you want to see her. She'll be making a few visits to Southampton before heading for Dubai.
