Where was this 1950s photo taken from? Are the mountains in the background a giveaway? The Mitchell Library can't identify this photo so l thought some of you may be able to help them out

My initial thought is Partick, looking Northwest over Partick Central. So it would be taken from the top of Regent's Mill or thereabouts.

Although looking more closely the housing doesn't fit.

How about looking northwest from a point just west of Paisley Station. The line going off a slightly further to the north would be the old Kilmacolm line???

That would mean that's Johnstone station top(ish) left(?) Isn't Johnstone two platforms? Was it an island then?

I'm sure it's the junction of Dumbarton Road and Anniesland Road. Taken from somewhere in the shipyard, the railway lines and station are now a carpark for the shipyard.

That would make the line heading northwestish part of the cycle path where it crosses Dumbarton Rd at the Dry Dock.

is it possible that the photo was taken from the Barcley Curle crane, or is that too far away?

sorry guys I don't think that's it, the kilpatrick hills are too close. It looks like Georgian style tenaments and a whole heap of bungalows stretching as far as the eye can see, that looks more like Edinburgh??

I think the photo was taken from the old office block of the Albion Motor Co. The office block was originaly 3 stories high and towered above the sheds and would have given the right elevation for this photo.

I have to say, looking at all the evidence so far it looks pretty conclusive. It's not proven to be another Maryhill Rd/Cathcart Rd saga.
