Not being Scottish me'self, and following on from http://www.hiddenglasgow.com/forums/vie ... ctarianism, I'd love to know how much Sectarianism is still an issue in 21st century Glasgow beyond the occasional bonehead at a football game. I've heard (no doubt apocryphal) stories about this community or that area of the town, and understand that historically certain areas have been linked to specific religious groups, but I don't really understand how this equates to a modern city. Are there still hotbeds of Unionism or Nationalism in today's multicultural Glasgow? And are there areas formally considered bastions of Protestantism or Catholicism that have (for want of a better word) evolved?

The thread you referred to is a locked thread so why refer to it? You taking or trying to take the piss?

Sectarianism doesn't exist in modern Glasgow so there's obviously no point in discussing it.

Just to clarify...

It's a subject I'm interested in, know little about from a non-football context, am approaching from a non-partizan basis, and was (perhaps optimistically) hoping for some analytical input (I'd have posted on other message boards had I been after witless insults)

Unfortunately Galoot this sort of topic cannot be discussed in Glasgow due to the narrow mindedness of far too large a bunch of its inhabitants as can be seen in the previously locked topic.

Walk about the town and you will get a flavour of the hand me down chips on shoulders, ingrained opinions and which areas are not to be wandered into (religious problems or not). It might be a modern looking city, but the stupidity is ingrained.

It's a subject on which no matter which way you approach a discussion, it always seems to end up descending into the mire and antagonising people. I wish rational debate were possible on the topic but 5 years of HG history (not to mention 300-odd years of Scots/Anglo/Irish history) would tend to suggest otherwise... Sorry.

Galoot, viewed from the outside (I am Scottish and I'm only 30 miles away) the whole thing is bemusing. ('It' does exist here too, the eastern edge of West Lothian, but at nothing like the same pitch, and it's usually easy to ignore.) Clearly an incredibly touchy subject within Glasgow... If you want to find out about the subject, I guess you'll have to find some suitable recent books. Though it's not specifically about Glasgow, this seems like it might be a good start.

Jazza 250-1 rank outsider; Although one of the 'power two' probably won't show up at the course in time.

Sharon 100-1; The other of the 'power two'! Good odds due to stronger riders, although might be a reasonable outside bet due to ability to remove other racers privilages.

Red Kola 30-1; Would have been joint 15-1 though due to prior thread appearance has dropped down the rankings

John R 20-1; New runner thus the bookie is unsure of how long he will "Stand fur this nonsense". Could be a possibility though as he has locked threads on safer ground.

Dazzababes 15-1; Certainly has not been afraid to lock in the past although better over long threads which gradually deteriorate over time. The bookie feels this will be more of a sprint to the keys.

My Kitten 10-1; Tries to not get involved in these races due to the muddy ground and also has prior showing. Somewhat put back up rankings due to previous key jangling and the 'Girly huff' anomoly.

Fossil 3-1; Would have been favourite due to showing in 2006 ledger, although has dropped to second because of prior thread appearance.

Crusty Bint 2-1 odds on favourite; Certainly not afraid to jangle the keys over both long distance and sprints, also, has no prior thread showing .
