Clarence Court, Crow Road.

Can anyone tell me what used to be on this site (circled) prior to the construction of Clarence Court nursing home and before that?

I know that Ross's Dairy depot was beside it, further east, but I've never been able to figure out what sat here previously.

Also, in the wee park further down Crow Road (just before you get to the Sainsbury's complex), what's the deal with the old stone wall that sits incongruously there? Is it something to do with Crow Road Station?

Saab garage was on the site of the current flats, nursing home was something else i am sure of it.

As for the Wall - are you talking about the wall up the middle of the Cross Park.

Dunno what it is but its been there for the last 30 years at least :) It does make the smaller part of the park on the right seem a bit strange, when i used to play in there we never really went in that bit. The old railway tunnel runs underneath that bit (from clarence dr to Thornwood).

The nursing home site was allotments pre war, and until the late Victorian era (when the surrounding tenements & Clarence Drive were built) it was part of a farmers field.

Ferguson's- a meat packaging plant was on the site immediately prior to the nursing home - closed in the late 80's or early 90's.

Gawd I walked down there often enough and can only remember the Saab garage too. Further down there was a dental place. Must ask the father if he can remember.

The Ice Cream factory was where the wee industrial units and the Royal Mail delivery office are now
