I never knew Possil Park was for the Polish or maybe it was built by them. Did you have Dorset clotted cream teas? I love clotted cream teas and also clotted cream ice cream.

Well spotted eagle eyes

According to John R. Hume's 'Industrial Archaeology of Glasgow' there was a Possil Park Paint Works in Bardowie Street Possilpark, built in 1902 for A.H. Hamilton, oil and paint manufacturers. Since the polish was likely to have been an oil based product I think that it is quite probable that it was made by this firm. Unfortunately the entry in the book doesn't give any more information other than to state that the works were badly damaged by fire in 1967.

I was trying to discover what became of the firm Archibald H Hamilton when I came across your page. My Father was a rep for this company covering the southern part of the country for many years until 1945 when, due to the retirement of Archie Hamilton he was made Managing Director.
I saw from your page that someone had posted a picture of a bucket , asking for information. Unfortunately I could not see the picture but going by what I was reading it sounded very much like the buckets in which floor polish was despatched. The buckets were straight sided and contained 5 gallons of floor polish. This polish was chiefly used in hospital and poorlaw institutions. The firm also made paints mainly again for hospitals and places such as gasworks etc.
The trademark for the firm was a scallop shell and the paints and polishes were marketed under the name of "Shell Brand" for many years until the advent of Shell petroleum when, according to Father, Archie was approached by the petrol company who wished to buy the name. As I say this is what Father told me so I cannot vouch for its accuracy other to say that Hamilton products no longer went under that name.
Father retired in the mid to late nineteen fifties when the firm was still in Bardowie Street so my knowledge ends there, but I would be interested in knowing what happened thereafter.
