Hi, some local residents received a letter from Baillie James McNally in September about the Beeches. Apparently he applied to the Council to carry out emergency repairs to the building and his application was accepted
The extent of the work relates to making the building wind and water tight and will therefore include reroofing, stonework repairs, rainwater pipes and gutters, sash and case windows plus all rot works discovered. No work will be carried out to reinstate the interior of the building
There will be a "charge" placed on the building to ensure the recovery of the council's costs.
( got to wonder how likely this is)
I was fully prepared to see the building go to ruin. I did see people in the house before the council work started but they obviously had no plans to sort it out properly whatever they were doing.
Nobody seems to know who the architect was or who it was built for. The listed building report doesn't give any info (
http://hsewsf.sedsh.gov.uk/hslive/hsstart?P_HBNUM=33933. It does say there was 'much good quality interior ornament, timber and stone carving, decorative plasterwork' which has probably been destroyed.
It's nice to see others interested in the building. if I receive any updates I'll post here
