I, on reflection, think it's London Road looking east from the vantage point of where the barras is now, BUT this is JUST before the barras got opened in the late '70s. Hence the tenements and that.

The road eastwards of the barras is straight until Templetons, then it curves the other way

Ok, still no ideas where this could be, but.... One thing springs to mind that would probably discount Eninburger is how dirty the buildings are. You got a better class of dirt on the east coast, even though there were coal fires, there wasn't the heavy industry belching out copious amounts of soot and ash. We've all got used to Glasgow looking fairly clean now but wen I were a lad, most of the tenements were pure bogging.

I have just checked an old map of Glasgow.
I would say it is not Duke street at Bellgrove street, there are no houses shown on the right hand side of Duke street just before Bellgrove street.

I'm actually not sure where I was thinking but the location seems really familiar! I'm not sure the upward gradient in the photo would fit with Gorgie Road though?

However we do seem to have ruled out Edinburgh anyway

After consultation with the wise and wonderful old man at the barras, I'd like to say I'm about 80 to 90% sure it is Springburn Road looking north. I'll explain a little of my reasons just now and when I get the chance, I'll scan in the map I've got from almost the same year with pointers.
The road exiting to the right, we think, is Petershill Road. The 1974 map shows a post office within the tenement to the right of the picture and, although not clear, there is a red sign which could indicate one.
The curve of the road is in the correct direction and by best guess, matches the angle.
Following the right hand tenements, there is a gap between two of them. On the map I have (stupid me is at work without it and has forgotten some street names) there is a lane joining a small road behind the far end of the tenement block.
And the final submission is the dry stone wall and trees to the far left of the picture... Sighthill Cemetery.

I'll try get the section of map scanned in first thing in the morning and you can see my reasoning clearer.

Doubtful if there is anything left for a current picture except maybe the cemetery wall. Springburn Road was re-aligned between 82 and 84.

I could be totally wrong of course :D
