Help with Partick photo

Postby vinny » Thu Nov 09, 2006 7:10 pm

Can anyone tell me the location of where this photo was taken in 1969? The tenements in the background look like Thornwood or Hyndland. See link to Virtual Mitchell: http://www.mitchelllibrary.org/virtualm ... fQ==&pg=99

Thanks
PS Might be a good Past/Present if accessible.

Pretty sure the tenements are on Dumbarton Road and the mainline Partick
station is off to the left. :?

Your correct Vinny it is Norval Street in the background.

This was one of 2 railway goods yards located off Crow Road, the other one being slightly further up the hill where the red brick "Wimpy" type houses are.

The goods yard shown in the picture was used as an electrification yard during the 1960's when the north clyde lines were electrified, and it saw use again in the 1980's during the re-signalling project associated with the construction of the Yoker Signalling Centre.

The large factory to the left rear used to make leather goods. My Aunt made me my first catchers mit for baseball. To the left is the old Partick station I,m sure that closed in the early eighties.
Thank you. And why not.

The tall building to the left was Thomlinson's printers, now luxury flats. It used to have a shop front on Dumbarton Rd (next door to Roastit' Bubbly Jock's I think)

The past present should be possible, although it may just be the front of Argos, and that unit they're refitting. I saw a lorry drive right inside there a while back.

Definitely the old Partickhill S&T depot on the left, the current Partick station is just east of this across Dumbarton Road.,
