Hello,

Ive been looking at this site for a couple of months now. Really love seeing the pictures of the way Glasgow has changed. I'm only 23 so havent seen much change in Glasgow but from the pictures ive seen on here wish that parts hadnt been demolished. Living in Cumbernauld there isnt much to look at.

Am really interested in any old pictures of Cowcaddens before the M8 destroyed the area or Ruchazie.

My parents are from these areas and would like to see the place they grew up.

Hoping to get more involved with the HG community.

Graeme

I used to travel to Cumbernauld and felt it was fascinating when I was a teenager. In another fifty years people will be recalling Papa Docs and other noteworthyHi Spots.

What it is good to see is that I am keeping up my tradition of not being able to use any of the features of the forum, right down to signatures, I seem to have a skill and being useless on forums.

MySpace
Bebo
Facebook

Is me if you are wondering, it will save me having to say it all again.

[Edit] It took me 2 posts to make a tit of myself, go me :D

Hi Jagsman

Welcome to Hidden Glasgow.

There are a couple of topics that have some old photos of Cowcaddens. Have you seen the Buchanan Street Station not the subway topic? Also the topic on Ruchazie. Sorry I am unable at the moment to provide you with a link.

I was born in Cowcaddens and moved to Ruchazie in the late 60's. I have tried to get photos of Ruchazie but no success so far.

Hope you enjoy reading and posting.

Jagsman,
I'm working with a group residents from Dundasvale on a local history project and have quite a collection of photos of the area pre-motorway.
I mentioned Carol Foreman's new book of aerial photography of Glasgow in another thread and recommend it to any HG user. It has two smashing snaps of the Cowcaddens area; there is lot of detail in them. Try your local library or come to the Mitchell, we have a copy in the Glasgow Room.
Have a look at this site for snaps of Cowcaddens St at the gushet:
http://www.glasgowpictures.co.uk
In the meantime, I'll add a few snaps for you (and Alex).

Le dùrachd,
Dimairt
