Hi Young'un and welcome to HG. I used to have a grand view of Ravenscraig myself, as I lived in one of the towers in Muirhouse for 11 years. I didn't have a camera in those days though, and I moved to Glasgow before they took it down. Wish I'd seen that. I'd have been at a much safer distance than the day I watched them take Hutchie E down, that's for sure! Once covered in building stour, and wee stanes.. twice shy!

Yes it is the great man himself as featured in the Ipcress File, and what a top pair of glasses those were.

Hi my name's Brian and I'm totally into Glasgow. I'm a product Designer/ does some architectural/technical drawings and whatever else comes my way. I come from Hamilton originally so I was glad to see some interest in Hamilton palace here in the forums, there is a lot of history in the town which most are unaware of, including me until last year. I was living in London for a couple of years and coming back I got right into local history, particularly the built environment. I've been boring friends and family solidly since about everything that I've learned about Hamilton/Cadzow. I'm now living in Glasgow and have developed a similar set of obsessions. I'm really fascinated by the great victorian exhibitions in Kelvingrove, those amazing temporary buildings that just disappeared as quickly as they were made. I could go on, but I'll stop now, I'll try and find a niche somewhere in the topics already here.

Love the graffiti thread

I need to sign up to UER too, I was delighted to find this;

http://www.uer.ca/locations/viewgal.asp?picid=20365

the kelvinbridge tunnel, cos up until June I was working in the attic of 1129 argyle st. and looked down the exact reverse of this viewing angle and always wondered what was in the tunnel...! In fact I remember a rumour going round about some insane students wanting to abseil down and the landlord said no, but he'd turn a blind eye.. that wasn't by any chance you lot was it?? If so, cool, well done!

One thing I'd really love to do and has been my aim for the past year or so is to use the 3D modelling that I use daily in my work to create a 3D construction of some of the lost Glasgow/Hamilton built heritage. I'd love to create an interactive environment where you can see how the old would have fitted into the new. I'm currently playing around with gae engines and photogrammetry (reconstruction of 3D models from photos) to do this. Big thing would be to get some funding for it and make it a serious project....

any thoughts/ comments?

Anway that's me and my odd obsessions,

cheers

Brian

hello, I'm new and I live in Glasgow

I love the old buildings in Glasgow, the modern stuff with all the glass are just eyesores when they're beside those old stone buildings with arches and various carvings.
