I'm more than a little pissed off by the new tickets, tbh. I only travel into work on the Subway so a 10 journey ticket would last me a couple of weeks (longer sometimes if I walked into work as well). The "replacements" are worthless to me, because I don't need a 7 day ticket for 5 journeys. So I'm paying more now - not much, but still more. And it's more the inconvenience - now I have to make sure I've got the cash for the subway the night before work - which was the main reason I bought the multi-journey ticket, tbh.

Once they bring in the Bramble cards, I'll be able to keep it topped up, but I'll be interested to see if the saving you make on journeys is as good as the Oyster card. Just all seems a bit of a shambles, tbh. They've released these tickets without all the new barriers having been installed. Granted they're going in quickly - Kinning Park has them, and Bridge Street were getting them on Tuesday when I went through there so they'll probably be in by now. But not Cowcaddens... which is a much busier station. Go figure...

It's not a '5', it's an 'S' I think. Just in case we didn't know it was a subway train and we mistook it for a number 37 bus.

I see the SPT are destroying the lovely Cessnock Subway sign that matches the stunning Alexander Thomson building at Walmer Crescent.

Anyone have any information as to why this is happening? Is it going back after some alteration or other?

Does anybody know when that signage was put up, though? I'd had it in mind it was from a mid to late-90s improvement.

Early 90's I seem to remember. According to the ticket clerk on duty at Cessnock this afternoon it's been removed permanently. Doesn't fit in with the new image apparently.

I think they were put up when the walmer crescent refurb happend, not sure if it was1988 GGF or 1990 year of culture... or maybe the year of architecture which was late 90s.

Tenement Refurbishment, Cessnock
Johnston and Munro

New flats were inserted behind the retained facades of Grade A Listed, Alexander "Greek" Thomsondesigned tenements on Cessnock Street, the return leg of Walmer Crescent.

Strathclyde Passenger Transport Authority were persuaded to replace its standard 1960s style Underground logos with new arches/gateways over the entrances to the adjacent(Cessnock) subway station designed to be more in keeping with the buildings above.
