KEEP 314202 ORANGE

Postby Alycidon » Fri Jun 16, 2006 8:16 pm

KEEP 314202 ORANGE - The only main line unit still in the original orange is 314202 but it is due to be refurbished and repainted into carmine cream, Mr Glass - is there anyway we can put pressure onto SPT to keep in in the original orange.

No need to be so formal Alycidon.

I would be happy to contact Alistair Watson and suggest this to him. Hopefully its not too late.

I'd back this as well.
Must admit i'm not a fan of that orange, but for historical reasons it should remain on one train at least.

Surely it's "original" colour scheme was blue grey?

Your correct James it was originaly in BR colours until SPTE rolled out the orange colour scheme in 1982.

That said I think it should be retained in it's orange colour as it served most it's working life . Aye Alex give Big Aldo a shout as he used to drive it back in the day.

I think it's worth keeping a couple in orange - it's part of the fabric of Glasgow now and should be retained.

Would it be worth setting up an epetition and contacting the ET and Herald?

Your right Alex he didn't drive the subway he was a 'Real' train driver driving the Big trains.

The unit Alycidon is referring to is one of the original units built for the reopening of the Argyle Line in the late 1970's. Not the Subway!

Here's an example of the type of train in question albeit in the new SPT colours

Nostalgia for 1982... dear me!!

The orange looks nasty, i'd ditch it... not for dreary cream and carmine, but perhaps for something a bit more this century.

That's probably what First thought when they chose pink & purple 8O

I'd like to see the trains in the old Caledonian blue, I hate anything with stripes, & weird colours going off in all directions, yukky yuk :?
I like public transport to have a digified face.

Before the carmine and cream (or blood and custard as some describe it) one unit was outshopped in the livery shown below. It seemed to be an attempt to blend the old Caledonian Blue with the orange and the (then) scotrail emblem.
