I thought they used the old Robertson's store in Great Western Road?

Can anyone remember a shop across Argyll Street (possibly part of the same block as Boots) which had an old gated lift, complete with uniformed attendant, right into the 80s? Or is my memory playing tricks?

The Argyle Market had a gated, attended lift longer than anywhere else I can remember.

I remember them in Arnott's and Fraser's as well although they were upgraded and made self service.

I think you mean Stirling's (before it became the Argyle Market in 1983). They had a gated lift with an attendant but most shoppers preferred the stairs due to the "scent" of the attendant! 8O

There is, or was, a gated lift in the stair tucked into House of Fraser on Argyle St.

The stair runs to Remnant Kings and more, including a few charities. Some charities have bailed out in recent years because, despite there being a lift in the building, there are 3-4 stairs from the street to the lift, making the building inaccessible to wheelchair users and others.
I hear the people sing.

Where was the Colosseum? At the Jury's Inn site, or across the road where Matalan/Currys etc is today?

I remember a building down there - the one between the Arnotts building and Howard Street getting burnt to the ground sometime in the late '80s/early '90s but I can't remember what it was before.

It looks like the inside of an IKEA store?

was this the former 'Polytechnic Hall'? John Anderson had moved out years before to the Royal Polytechnic Warehouse in Argyle Street and the old 'Polytechnic Hall' may have been renamed by the new owners.

When I was a wee boy my mother worked in Bow's Dept Store just at the bottom of High St.
She used to think it was far superior to that "Goldbergs place" along the road where people could actually "buy things" before they had the money.
It really was just like Grace Brothers with a very specific hierarchy among the staff and the departments .
I remember being taken in to meet my mum on my birthday to choose a new toy car. They were not Dinky or Matchbox but a brand called Spot On. No one seems to have heard of them but I thought they were just the best.
Great days, great memories (perhaps that was just the view through my rose tinted specs) and what a different way of shopping back then.

Any one remember the place or remember Spot-On cars

And
according to "Scouting for Boys: A Handbook for Instruction in Good Citizenship" circa 1908

Reid & Todd patented The Umbrella Star Map - "an ordinary umbrella with all the stars in their proper places in the inside. This map can be correctly set for any day of the year and any hour showing the approximate positions of the stars"
