Sorry, I was referring to the 2D version.

Remember this is tagged 'Beta' so will be subject to odd behaviour on occasion.

The 2D version will run in IE or Fx.

The 3D version will ONLY run in IE as it uses proprietary Microsoft extensions, ActivX if I remember the install blurb correctly.

Server load may currently be high for the 3D version, as people find it.

The French launched their own mapping clone a few months back, and when word spread over the web, their servers crashed within a few hours.

I've had the white screen a few times, but the 3D view arrives eventually once the code initialises, even though that can take minutes rather than seconds on occasion.

Just noticed that the flashearth viewer has been updated to show more image sources.

Interestingly, the ask.com aerial images of glasgow are nicely out of date, so lots of now demolished buildings and roads are still on it.

No M77 so around 1995-96?

Maybe even before that....the Biomed building at Strathclyde Uni hasn't been built yet......early 90s/late 80s maybe?

Edit - Ignore that, im talking shite.....just realised some of the new Gorbals has been started, i'm assuming all the images are from the same date.

Love that flashearth, especially the old stuff on Ask.com, and the way you can switch between sources. Perhaps some past-present views are in order.

The only grumble is the oldest images don't cover much north of the river :(

Interesting - Springfield Quay is still a series of industrial buildings, so it hadn't yet been converted to leisure use - it opened as such in Sept 1996, so that would make that area's coverage no later than 1995, allowing for demolition and construction time.

Aye 1995 would fit.

I'm only seeing the more up to date google maps just getting blank tiles on Ask.com etc. Do I need Java installed to see these?

Don't think so, maybe a newer version of the flash player plug-in?

Not all the image sources have coverage for Glasgow when zoomed in too close, try zooming out a bit.

Should look like this.

Port Dundas is interesting. Switching between the sites shows that the Barge was moved and in one the swing bridge was across the canal.
